F&D on Madly Off In All Directions
On Saturday, March 8, 2003, we recorded a set at the Oakville
Centre for the Arts for CBC Radio's Madly Off In All Directions.Host
Lorne Elliott was amazing, and the line-up and staff were absolutely
terrific.
Lorne is amazingly prolific, as he has hosted this show for the last
few years and done concert recordings all across Canada many times over.
One truly impressive thing about Lorne, besides his room-dominating
head of hair, is his sharp wit to come up with great material for whatever
locale he finds himself in. He's a man who does his homework, to the
great appreciation of all.
The show lasted about 3 hours, but did not drag at all. Everyone playing
had great energy, the audience was very responsive, the crew at the
Centre were fantastic, and Lorne's producers and assistants were great,
down-to-earth, and nice to deal with.
Besides Lorne and us, the other acts performing that night included
Glen ("That Canadian Guy") Foster (who probably had the edgiest
set of the night -- way to go buddy!!), stand-up Carrielynn Nicholson
(funny, charming, gracious), Toronto Star columnist Linwood Barclay
(very nice and funny to hang out with), music from Tanglefoot (cool
celtic-flavoured songs), and more! The raw recordings of the whole show
will be subdivided into at least 3 broadcastable shows, and at this
writing we have received no word yet when our segment will appear, but
stay tuned.
Overall, a brilliant experience on a very cold and snowy Oakville night.
Hope we get another crack at it!
