Gord's Quick Acting Bio

Currently, I'm of course doing the Fast & Dirty thing. (Duh.) Through that we've performed all over Toronto, doing places as diverse as Second City (Mainstage, Tim Sims Playhouse and The Old Firehall), the Rivoli, the Bad Dog Theatre (current home of Theatresports), the lobby of the Bluma Appel Theatre, the Bloor Cinema, the Poor Alex, the Oasis, The Laugh Resort, a chi-chi country club, the Isabel Bader Theatre, the Limelight Dinner Theatre, Oakville Centre for the Arts, Spirits Bar and Grill, and a whole whack of other places I'm just not remembering right now. We won the Tim Sims Encouragement Fund Award in 1997. In 1998 we performed on CBC-TV's SketchCom, got nominated for a Writing Gemini in 1999 for that (with Skippy's Rangers), and did other TV appearances with Cream of Comedy, The Camilla Scott Show (CTV), Daytime (Rogers), The Erin Davis Show (Rogers), and The Toronto Show (Toronto1). We've also done radio with CBC's Definitely Not The Opera and more recently Madly Off In All Directions, as well as CIUT's Ch Zero, Howl and Cap'n Dave's Comedy Hour.

I'm also doing semi-regular improv comedy with a loose grouping of fine and funny folk called "The Wrecking Crew," founded by Jane Luk and occasionally including the funny likes of Dave Healey, Sam Agro, Jan Caruana, and F&D's Robbo del Hokko! And more! We perform every other Friday night at Timothy's Coffee Shop in the Carrot Common on the Danforth in the lovely east end of Toronto (see Gigs for next batch of dates).

I did Theatresports after graduating university, and through that met and performed with lots of fantastic people over the years. Understudied with The Chumps during the Big City Improv days in the early 1990's, did 3-person improv as "Tropic of Improv" with the dynamic duo of Carolyn Meehan and Drew Leavy, improv with "What's Next" at the Annex Improv at Bathurst and Bloor.

I've done a couple of plays, the 1995 Sudbury Fringe Festival with What's Next cast members, the odd indie movie thing here and there, and a whole bunch of solo turns over the years, doing character monologues, songs and comedic readings. Had one line in a sketch with the great Kathryn Greenwood for the TV series 'Listen Missy', and appeared in a SOC (silent on camera) role for CBC-TV's 'The Broad Side' back in 1998 (here's a pic of the period costume I had to get into -- pretty spiffy).
