The
Piece
|
Our
Everlovin' Comments
|
| Let's start with some pieces from our new CD, "Live From Our Pants"
|
|
| Rock & Roll |
We took a Cuisinart approach to this piece, sampling about the last 40 years of Rock and Roll music in one three-minute tuneless ditty. For us, it's another oldie, but we do like doing it live.
|
| Sensitive Finger Picking |
We love doing this one. The first 2/3 of the song could be interpreted as a sincere, sappy tribute to love, while the last 1/3 saves it from the brink of saccharine.
|
| Accountant Song |
The ancient nugget done, with some new arrangements and some slightly different words. Plus tremendous bongo work by Robbo, truly. Compare and contrast with the version below.
|
| Cock Soup |
Technically, this one isn't on the CD, but we did record it at the same time as the other live tracks on Live From Our Pants. This will probably make an appearance on our next CD. At any rate, Gord explores his inner 12-year-old in this piece with help from a real-life foodstuff. Rated "DI" for "Deliciously Immature."

Rick Hodge - CFRB radio commentary Nov 7, 2008 |
Technically, this doesn't appear on our CD either, but this was a fantastic freebie out of the blue from Toronto radio DJ Rick Hodge (formerly of CHUM-FM's "Roger, Rick and Marilyn", now at CFRB 1010 AM). He incorporated our "Jazz" piece from our CD to help illustrate a point about NBA games.
I love this, it's very funny, and hey, very flattering too. Huge thanks, Rick, you're very kind!

| Theme for old Fast & Dirty TV Pilot |
Robbo and Gordo started this whole Fast & Dirty venture based on a TV pilot that the Bank of Robbo financed back in 1995. Gordo's buddy Greg Simpson helped produce this theme song. The fantastic Ross Breithaupt did the drums and also helped Gordo with the great backing chorus. And yes, that is Gordo on tambourine and bongos. Good ear!
|
| The Accountant Song (old version) |
Done around 1996, I (Gord) really
enjoy Rob's electric guitar playing on this one; it kicks ass. Kudos to Greg Simpson on a great production job. The background chorus still makes me laugh.
This version is a truncated version of what we do live, and differs a bit from what we did on SketchCom as well.
|
| Beefeater |
Done live on CIUT-FM around 1996, it was a fun mock radio interview. Rob made me laugh with his over-the-top performance. The sound quality isn't the best here, but it somehow is appropriate for the guerilla feel of our show.
|
| Cracking Open The Y Chromosome |
Another live CIUT radio sketch, both Rob and I assumed 2 roles, as ourselves and as the socially awkward but scientifically brilliant(?) Stoat Brothers, in their underground neutrino laboratory in Sudbury, Ontario. Rough sound, great taste.
|
| Trucker |
Again something written around 1996, Trucker is for us one of those reeeeeeeeeally old songs, and we think, the first one we may have written. Either that or Accountant. At any rate, a great job by Paul Tedeschini producing this.
|
| Jesus Pieces |
A fun, goofy
concept that has nice echoey effects. Oh, and it's totally blasphemous
too.
Gord touched up the original voice recording by Max Douglas with some additional chorus
stuff in the background, for those keeping score out there.

Honey (acoustic)
Honey (full) |
These are 2 variations on a kick-ass "I-want-sex-with-you-euphemistically-and-for-real"
song written by Robbo. Honey is fun to do in front of an audience, both goofily (with ad-hoc bumble bee suit and a jar of honey sampled by the crowd) and as a smouldering ditty, like on our CD, "Live From Our Pants."
The versions here are from a few years ago, with a simple acoustic treatment and a slightly fuller accompaniment. Fantastically produced by Paul Tedeschini, these MP3s are perfect for your next triste, menage à trois, rendezvous, tête-à-tête
or Valentine's Day.
|
| Jazz (old) |
Rob hates jazz.
Gord likes it. Rob wrote this song. Gord played along. Can you see
where this is going? This was produced by Paul Tedeschini, and we like it.
Our version which appears on our CD, "Live From Our Pants," is also great. And insane too.
|
| Hell |
This is an old piece which we don't do live anymore, but back in the day (1996) we had fun with it. A version of this was also done on CBC-TV's SketchCom in 1998. This sound file here is, I believe, another Max Douglas production.
|
| You |
A gentle kinda
sorta love song. Perfect for your next triste, menage à trois, rendezvous,
tête-à-tête or Valentine's Day. Produced by Paul Tedeschini.
We don't tend to do this one too much live anymore. I (Gord) don't like lugging around a ton of props, which are typically produced in the course of singing this song. But on the other hand, it is fun to get someone either onstage or just direct it to them in their seat.

My Cat's Ass
My Cat's Ass (Dance Mix) |
This first track was produced by Paul Tedeschini around 1999-2000, and he did a great job of instilling the delicious creepy vibe. It tells the story of Robbo, who had a lovely
Persian cat (honestly), and, out of necessity, had forged a special bond with her. It's a kick to do this piece live, as we did on our CD, "Live From Our Pants."
In the Dance Mix, Gord took Rob's cat tales (sorry for that one), and set it to a bitchen beat!
|
| Liquid Meat Intro |
I enjoy testing the limits of my meagre home audio recording and editing set-up, so I put my haggard old computer through its paces again to concoct this little ditty which we've sometimes used at gigs to usher in Beelzebub's bad boys of acoustic heavy metal, Liquid Meat.
This is the original version, which runs a tad long but otherwise it makes me smile.
